Absolute Sword Sense - Webtoon & Manhwa Recommendation

Today, I am bringing you a review of a very special Murim series: Absolute Sword Sense (Korean title: 절대검감). If you are a fan of the wildly popular webtoons Nano Machine and Myst Might Mayhem, this is an absolute must-read, as it shares the exact same universe! While it has some distinct flaws regarding its artwork, its unique storyline and action mechanics make it a fascinating read. Here is my honest, transparent review of this prequel series, along with some highly recommended similar works at the end.

Ratings

• Story: 8.5 / 10
• Art: 7 / 10
• Action and Directing: 8 / 10
• Recommendation: 7.9 / 10

What is Absolute Sword Sense about? (Synopsis)

Set in a massive shared martial arts universe, this story chronologically takes place before both Myst Might Mayhem and Nano Machine. The narrative follows a protagonist who is reborn with a shattered core but possesses a highly unconventional and overpowered ability: the "Absolute Sword Sense." This ability allows him to literally communicate with and control swords. Using this cheat-like power, he navigates a dangerous path that ties directly into the legacy of the Blood Cult.

Key Reasons to Read This Series (And One Honest Critique)

1. The Origin Point of a Massive Universe

As mentioned, this series is the earliest chronological installment in the Nano Machine universe. If you are a fan of the other two works, reading this webtoon is practically essential. Seeing the foundational lore and the historical context of the world before the events of Nano Machine adds a massive layer of enjoyment.

2. A Fresh Faction: The Master of the Blood Cult

Most traditional Murim webtoons divide their factions strictly between the Orthodox factions (Jeongpa) and the Demonic Cult (Magyo). However, this series takes a refreshing turn. The protagonist carries the blood of the Blood Demon (혈마) and wields the power to become the master of the Blood Cult (혈교). This unique faction alignment sets the story apart from generic martial arts tropes.

3. Unique Action via "Talking" to Swords

Living up to its title, the protagonist's overpowered ability to hear the "voices" of swords and manipulate them creates incredibly unique action sequences. Combining this psychic-like sword control with the brutal techniques of the Blood Demon results in combat scenes that feel very different from other Murim webtoons.

4. Honest Critique: Declining Art Quality

To be completely transparent, the artwork is the weakest point of this series. Initially, the art style is just a bit rough and clunky, which you can get used to. However, compared to the epic scale and high-tier art of the other two shared-universe webtoons, this one is undeniably the least popular. Furthermore, in recent episodes, the art quality feels like it is progressively deteriorating. It is highly recommended to keep this in mind and lower your expectations for the visuals before diving in.

Who is this recommended for?

This series is highly recommended for die-hard fans of the Nano Machine universe who want to consume all the lore and history available. It is also a great fit for readers who enjoy unique overpowered abilities (like communicating with weapons) and unconventional faction dynamics. If you can look past the deteriorating art style for the sake of the story, you will find it quite enjoyable!

Where to Watch

You can read the official English translation on WEBTOON, and the original Korean version on NAVER WEBTOON.

Similar Works Recommendation (Shared Universe)

If you enjoyed the world-building in Absolute Sword Sense, you absolutely must read the other two legendary webtoons that share this same universe!

1. Myst Might Mayhem

Positioned as the second entry in chronological order, this series delves deeply into the raw, unbridled origins of the Demonic Cult's foundational terror. Readers are treated to breathtaking, high-octane artwork where every strike carries immense weight and visual impact. The protagonist's ruthless efficiency, combined with an overriding aura of madness and brute physical dominance, creates an exhilaratingly tense atmospheric ride. If you love dark, imposing protagonists who completely shatter their opponents without hesitation, this installment is an absolute masterpiece to experience.

2. Nano Machine

As the flagship title that catapulted this entire shared universe into global fame, this story takes place in the furthest future of the timeline. It seamlessly fuses the lethal grace of traditional martial arts with high-tech sci-fi elements as the protagonist receives advanced nanotechnology injected directly into his body. The nano-machine acts as an ultimate bio-computer, calculating enemy movements, reconstructing damaged meridians, and facilitating lightning-fast martial mastery. Delivering nonstop, highly cathartic action alongside an unforgettable, cold-headed protagonist, it stands as an unmatched titan of the modern Murim genre.

Webtoon & Manhwa Recommendation

(Synopsis)

(Myst Might Mayhem)

(Nano Machine)
