To return to his own body and timeline, he must figure out how to stop four major tragedies from happening. Watching a ruthless bully desperately try to survive his own past abuse in a weak body completely hooked me and provided endless comedic moments.

Therefore, while I strongly urge you to read Season 1, diving into Season 2 is a choice I completely leave up to your personal preference.
