Following the intense underworld action of my previous recommendation, Castle, I am bringing you another absolute masterpiece in the noir genre: Plaza Wars (also known as Mercy for None for its live-action adaptation).

This work is created by the same author as Sindorim (which I will definitely review in a future post!). While it shares the dark, gritty noir atmosphere of Castle, Plaza Wars distinguishes itself with a highly unique art style and a storyline overflowing with old-school, hardboiled "romance."

If I had to describe my biggest impression of this webtoon in one phrase, it would be: "It left while the audience was applauding." It is completely finished and is not overly long, making it the perfect series to binge-read in a few sittings without any frustrating, dragged-out plots.

The story revolves around a legendary figure who once dominated the absolute apex of the criminal underworld but left it all behind to live a quiet life. However, when his brother is brutally murdered due to the shifting power dynamics of the syndicates, he steps back into the bloody "plaza." It is a relentless, stylish tale of revenge as he single-handedly dismantles the organizations responsible.

It does not suffer from the common webtoon problem of dragging the story out for popularity. The introduction, development, climax, and conclusion are perfectly tightly woven. It delivers exactly what it needs to and wraps up at the most perfect, impactful moment.
  2. Unique Art Style and Deep "Noir Romance" If you know the author's previous work, Sindorim, you know they have an incredibly distinct and stylish way of drawing. This unique art style gives Plaza Wars a very specific "romantic" and gritty flavor that you cannot find in standard action webtoons. The characters, their dialogues, and their actions ooze charisma.

A Massive Success on Netflix The webtoon left such a phenomenal impression on its readers that it was adapted into a live-action Netflix drama series (Mercy for None), which also achieved massive success.
